Community toolbox (like a library)

How many times have you need a screwdriver or a drill? In my case not many... so why having one of each at home? Each neighborhood could have a "tool library" financed by all the neighbours (local authority and tool manufacturers could also help) so every time you need a tool from the toolbox you go there, pay a deposit and take wherver you need.

After using it yo give it back to the "tool library" and you get your deposit back. It can be tracked by an app, that tells you about what is available in the communal toolbox, you can make bookings, and reminds you about giving back the tool.

Or instead a deposit for each tool, another idea:
- as you need to become a member of it "community toolbox" you need to give you card details, in the case you don't give the itme back you will need to pay an amount of money. The app will remind you of the returning date.

  • Hi Idoia! Interesting idea. It is true that in the case of tools, unless we use them for our work, we probably do not use them more than a few times in life. Also I think it would not be very difficult and expensive to develop your idea. That's why I think your idea is fantastic.

  • Thanks for your comment Iker! I think collaborative economy is making its place little by little, and this is just an example. But I think that this model could be scalable to many other aspects.
But yes, in the case of tools especially I find it really useful the "grab, use, return" model. Even if a deposit will be necessary no ensure that the tools are returned.
