The Eating Machine uses food waste to turn to compost which can be used in an urban farm, and uses grey water put through a living machine which in turn cleans water and purifies air.
Key users and beneficiaries:
Residents benefit from creating compost which they can intern use in their own plants or sell. This is solving the issue around the high percentage of food waste in the home.
Key systems needed:
This would need to reroute the grey water coming from homes to be processed locally (in the home)
Localised cleaning of grey water and dealing with organic waste
The first phase of this challenge looked at key opportunity areas, barriers to overcome, inspirational case studies, existing research, facts and figures, and other insights around the challenge. The Circle Economy team identified and clustered all submissions into key areas of opportunity that served to inspire and support the development of new solutions at the Beyond Next circularity festival. This is one of the solutions that came out of the event.
