Reduce Waste on construction sites

So much valuable construction materials end up in a skip that costs money. Approx 420 million tonnes of waste is generated from UK construction activities. I have built a free online platform to buy and sell these unwanted building materials. If we can get 1% of total waste diverted from landfill that would be a massive step in the right direction from an environmental perspective. Reuse leftover materials by offering them to others for a low or free price. #DONTSKIPIT #SELLIT #passiton

With so many benefits it must be a better way of reducing waste than we currently offer.

  • Hi Lee, I would love to hear more about your experience running the platform and how you think it would benefit this challenge! For example: at what point in the course of an event would you see the most value for your platform? Who could use it, and how?

  • Our platform is what we called currently as a sunset chaser. Haha. Its a concept that is the end goal for all waste throughout all industries. Waste is such a big problem and change is needed from high level government firstly. We are seeing small signs of this but more needs to be done.

Running the platform is exciting as to see the results of stopping waste going to landfill is great. The difficulty we have is changing mindsets on how we look at waste and the money associated with waste. So many inefficiencies throughout industries not just construction. We have to date saved our users approx £9K to date and diverted 40 tonnes from landfill. Such a good feeling but we need to get the message out there so we can increase these statistics.

Do you have any other questions, please just ask. Thanks

  • It would be great if there was a way to create a version of this platform for the events industry. There was another idea from Leanne Anderson to create a shared pool of event resources for the city (, and perhaps this platform could allow people to exchange those resources.
