Use green mobile toilets with nutrient recovery

This idea has inspired a solution. Join the discussion here.

At events usually people (especially women) expect long lines in front of the mobile chemical toilets. With green urinals with embedded nutrient use, the event can even become more green. This product is currently under development by alchemia-nova and will enter the market by autumn this year. We just won a business acceleration programme for this product (innovate4nature).

  • Congrats on winning the acceleration programme, Johannes! Do you see opportunities to collaborate with existing portable toilet providers?

  • The idea is, once we finish the development to license it to portable toilet providers or find partner companies in interested areas/countries. As said, we expect to place the first toilet end of this year and expand to more places within next year. So, if Glasgow is interested we can definitely team up with local companies..

  • Hi Johannes. This is a really interesting concept. I'd be keen to learn more about the benefits - for example, if I was an event / festival organiser, what would be the business benefits to using green urinals over standard mobile chemical toilets?

  • In our first version we will only incorporate urine so far. So, other toilet systems are still needed if you think about festivals. Still, you can decrease the toilet cue, as most of the people will be satisfied with this toilet system for most of the times they seek a toilet.
The benefits are the aesthetics, the toilet cue decrease, the green image, the hygiene associated with the clean easily cleanable surfaces of the toilet as such, the idea of doing something good, the possible use of the products generated with the toilet, the decrease of costs in the long run as you don't need to get rid of the wastewater but instead converting it to products.
The toilet works self-sufficient without additional pipes or electricity needed and will be transportable on a trailer, which can be left directly on-site and taken again.
In the next version, we will make toilets with inbuilt feces conversion as well, also by producing energy through biogas..
So, I think there are already several benefits in comparison to chemical toilets.
